Open Source Meter and Sustainability

Open Source Meter is strongly based on the idea that prudent monitoring and smart energy consumption is an important component of making our world a cleaner and better place to live. We all face the fact that the demand for electricity is a permanent fixture of our lives and the costs (both monetary and environmental) are a problem that we all must try to mitigate at every chance we get. It is not always going to be as easy as changing a light bulb to adjust our consumption for the better, but it doesn’t have to be too difficult either. There are many ways that the products we offer can and should be used to help save the environment and as a bonus save money. Whether you are operating a large factory, a small office, or even your home there is always an opportunity to increase the efficiency of your energy consumption as well as adjust your time of use.

Sometimes it is as simple as installing a small meter to watch your average current usage and setting goals to lower that average. Other times it can be a complicated process in which an automated power monitoring and control system is implemented into your plant. If you don’t have to run your equipment during peak hours why should you? Offsetting the start-up of your machines can have more of an impact than one might think. Sure, you might have the internal infrastructure to handle a spike in usage and usually the power grid can absorb large demands by always generating more power than is necessary and wasting it during times of low usage, but it doesn’t have to be that way. If enough of us work together we can make things a little better by ensuring proper utilization of our power by having optimization at its best.
